Danu – Rise of the Great Mother

Original Size: 76 cm x 60cm

A classic creation from primordial chaos, coming from my own mental and emotional turmoil.

The symbol of the triskel has been showing itself to me a lot, the representation of maiden, mother, and crone, as I move into what I see as the third spiral on my earthly journey, initiating into the crone, hag, or wise woman.  This year has been another big year of death and rebirth for me, journeying deeper and deeper, and also through the land here where I was born.

I have had a lot of physical pain again during the summer, clearing out more and more old traumas. At one point, I was bedridden and couldn't hold my head up or swallow as I was moving through more imprints of female oppression, past life treachery, injustices, shame, anger, sexual trauma, voice suppression, and not being able to speak my truth.

Revisiting old ground, spiralling in to reveal deeper gnosis, release, forgiveness, and into a void of nothingness eventually. This earthly experience has such a way of humbling me; the minute I think I know something, a deeper calling happens, feeling everything, surrendering all knowledge, and finding comfort eventually in knowing nothing at all, solving nothing but surrendering to and holding the mystery. As I journeyed throughmy bones and the layers of my ancestry and geographical ancestry.

I found the Irish/Celtic goddess Danu, the mother of creation. In Irish mythology, she is the mother of the Tuatha Dé Danann. The most celebrated of divine beings, whose purpose was to create heaven on earth.

As I was painting, I was contacted by the beautiful poet Laura Murphy. She shared with me this amazing story that she had written over some time through her initiations of Danu. We concluded that the painting and her story are coming from the same place. Here is a link to her beautiful story.

It is time now for the feminine energy to rise, and the rule of the patriarchy has had its day.  Time to remember our gifts, our creative power, and our voices to call for love, freedom, peace, and come into right relationship with ourselves and our great Mother Earth. May the only blood being shed be that of our wombs.
