The Pilgrims
The piece has been coming through for 9 months since a pilgramage to France last year where we visited some of the places on the land where Mary Magdalene and her family lived for many years. I have spent a lot of the time since, feeling
into, reading and thinking about the time of Mary and what life would look and feel like back in the time of Jeshua. There are many stories of course of Mary and Jeshua seen and told through the eyes and perceptions of different tellers. Some scriptures told, some omitted, some lost and a lot manipulated and distorted by the patriarchy and the church along the way. For this piece it is my humble hope to offer some balance back into the narrative through Art and write some of the untold, capturing a piece of herstory stepping back in time but
also reflective of the current energies reemerging in our collective consciousness.
This is my own interpretation of course. I had a clear vision of her leading the way on a path carrying a flame. The feminine navigating here and the masculine following her lead. It also reflects Mary heading off with the teachings carrying
forth the rose path and sowing the seed of Christ conscious after Jeshua moves on into the light here. She carries the flame of their teachings forward. Those of Living a life of compassion, divine love, interconnectedness and recognizing the
divine spark which lives within ourselves.
There is a lot of symbolism throughout. The sacred geometry of the Vesica Pisces is reflected in the sky and represents to me the divine union of Masculine and feminine, the union of opposites, spirit and matter, heaven and earth.. In early christianity the Ichthys represented Christ as the intersection of divinity and
humanity. It is also seen here as the womb of the universe, a portal and gateway. It can be used in meditation to activate the third eye, enhance intuition and align with our own divinity. As above, so below and I realise now that the pomegranates which had to feature in the piece are reflective of this.
They symbolise the womb of the earth and fertility. They often have been used as a medicine for fertility and a cross section of which is very similar to that of our ovaries. They a represent abundance, the sacred feminine and resurrection
and much more. Also the union again of the masculine and feminine.
The our Father in aramaic is the script visible on the bottom left, it is also peaking through in Hebrew script(primarily used for scripture) and Galilean Script ( the living spoken language of Jeshua and Mary), throughout the painting and underpainting. The prayer is a powerful multilayered invocation recognising the universe or cosmic source as a Mother father energy focusing on
inner light and creating sacred space within ourselves, untangling from karmic dept and connecting to divine light through breath and sound.
These are just some of my interpretations of course and it is my wish for the viewer to receive a felt sense of love, truth and rememberance of their own heart and path.
With love and thanks to anyone who helped and inspired this piece along the way.Love Jean
